Background
ABC Country is the ABC's digital country music station, heard on DAB+ digital radio, digital TV (channel 203), the ABC Listen app and online. It grew out of ABC Dig Country, an online-only stream, and became a digital radio station when the ABC switched on digital radio in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth in 2009. The music runs from traditional and bluegrass to western swing, honky tonk and alternative country.
The station has a strong Australian focus, with about 70% Australian music according to Wikipedia, and it carries Saturday Night Country with Beccy Cole, which went national in February 2024 with its first hour shared live with ABC local radio stations in the capital cities. A few self-help retransmitters, mainly in Western Australia and Queensland, also carry its stream.
